Is the long awaited flight to suburban office actually happening in the Bay Area?

Twitter seems to think the future is leaning toward a hybrid workforce, with an easier commute that eliminates the Bay Bridge and potentially BART and public transportation.

Inking a 66,000 square foot deal at TGM’s 1330 Broadway building in downtown Oakland, word is the office will be designed for hybrid workers.

The Bay has seen few companies relocate or expand out of SF proper. What was expected to be a flight to suburban, smaller office footprints, simply hasn’t come to fruition. That said, most companies likely didn’t anticipate 20 months of restricted operations or employees continuing a semi-permanent work from home status. #wfh

Twitter isn’t the only company in history to make a big Oakland move. Uber famously purchased a 350,000 square building in 2015, who never did occupy and sold the building just a few years later.

What do you think? Is this just the first of many SF based businesses to take an East Bay footprint?
